What type of printing process is used?
The presses are state-of-the art Heidelberg
and Mitsubishi commercial presses.
Offset printing is based on
a technology called lithography meaning "writing with stones".
The image was engraved on a flat stone stone that was inked and
put in contact with a sheet of paper. Ink was kept away from areas
of the stone not engraved by water. As water and ink repel each
other, the ink adhered only to the engraved area of the stone.
Today, the stone is a metalic plate, but the principal is the
same. The term "offset" comes from the transfer of the
ink from the plate to a rubber blanket, and then from the blanket
to the paper.
Digital printing
refers to high-speed laser printing. This technology uses a laser
to expose the image on to photosensitive material on a drum. Electrically
charged toner is attracted to the image on the drum and is transferred
to the paper. The toner is fixed with either heat and/or pressure.
